St.Croix Virgin Islands - Online Travel Guide

Frederiksted served as the base of slave revolts in the mid 1800s, but today it’s claim to fame comes more in its role as the home of the St. Croix deep water port for visiting passenger cruise ships. A small downtown area features some shopping and the historic Fort Frederik. Travelers will find many of St. Croix’s nicest beaches to the north and south of Frederiksted including the Sandy Point area sometimes restricted to sea turtle nesting. Diving around Frederiksted includes not only the reef diving one might expect, but diving under the cruise ship pier itself can yield sightings of very interesting Caribbean creatures like sea horses. As one might expect from a town on the west shore of a tropical island, Frederiksted boasts the finest sunsets on St. Croix. When driving to Frederiksted the route through the rainforest makes for and exciting journey though huge hanging ferns and mahogany trees. Tourists will find all of the typical shops, restaurants, hotels and condominiums they would expect in the second largest city on St. Croix, but in smaller quantity than in Christiansted. If you want to enjoy the sun setting in the west on the horizon of the Caribbean Sea, Frederiksted needs a place on your St. Croix itinerary.
